Janine & Dan’s Winter Wonderland Wedding, March 11th, 2006.

Neither rain, nor hail…. sleet, or snow kept this Bride & Groom from their ceremony!

Felicita Park, Escondido, was the location selected by Janine & Dan for their South African themed wedding. At the very cold, and wet rehearsal the day before, everyone debated on whether or not to move the wedding to a different location, but Janine & Dan really loved the spot they had chosen and were sure the worst of the unexpected winter storm was over. Arrangements were made to close off the sides of the tent provided by the park and bring in some space heaters. …. Just in case. We went home and made little raincoats for our cameras and gathered up the warmest clothes we could find. In some areas of the country this may not be too uncommon but keep in mind here in Escondido is an average yearly temp of 76 degrees, we just don’t get this cold here!

We sure did today! After a nice getting ready session with the bride & girls at the grooms mothers house, we headed off to the ceremony site. Within moments of leaving, the cold rainy morning gave us another surprise…. Buckets and buckets of moth ball sized hail! The freeway was at a crawl with this slippery white stuff covering the road. Kudos to Jennie, our assistant for the day for staying calm and keeping the car on the road while I tried to capture the scene!

Meanwhile back at the ceremony site Skip & the guys did their best to hold down the tent.

Guests were arriving during the downpour, tarps were blowing, and girls were screaming. The hail continued to pound down on the area for about 5 minutes transforming the site into what now looked like a winter wonderland.

Only about 10 minutes late, which considering the conditions was amazing….. here comes the bride in a “Hail” of glory!

Janine was loving it! The air was fresh, crisp and clear, she was as happy as ever. Not every bride, especially in San Diego gets a white wedding day!

Everyone did their best to keep the tent awnings down all day; but the cold wind just kept whipping through. The space heaters did a good job of keeping things warm, and we snuck outside the tent whenever we could to get some shots of the happy couple.
At times helpful groomsmen were jumped in to keep us, and our gear dry… Thanks Dan!

Inside the tent, the smell of the beautiful tropical flowers played tricks on you senses. If you stood by a heater and closed your eyes you were transported to a warm summer day, but when you snapped back to the present, gray skies and white, wet ground were the reality.
Janine & Dan however seemed oblivious to the cold though….. I guess it was a combination of all that love and adrenaline!

I felt like I was at the North Pole…….BRRRRRRR!

Remind me of this in August!

Despite the interesting tricks Mother Nature played on us all it was a beautiful day, and one none of us will ever forget!

Congratulations Janine & Dan!

They say Good luck will come your way with rain on your wedding day…. I think you two should run out and buy a Lottery Ticket….. you are destined for good luck for sure with this rainy wedding day!
